Am I A Christian?

We can go through life making assumptions about many things. One thing we cannot make an assumption about, is whether or not we are a Christian. Look at the statements below that some people give as evidence that they are a Christian, and the comments given.

I believe in God.

The Bible says, "You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe - and tremble!" James 2:19 Many people think and indeed say they are Christians yet do not bother about Jesus Christ. Just saying you believe in God does not make you a Christian.

I do good for others and I've never hurt anyone.

The Bible says, "And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same." Luke 6:33 Doing good is quite right, but most people do good, even those who do not profess to be Christians. That does not make you a Christian.

I was brought up in a Christian home with Christian parents.

In the book of Romans we read, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek." Romans 1:16 Yes, you may live in a Christian household, but have YOU heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Do you understand what it means for you? You do not become a Christian just because your parents are. Just as living in a Christian household does not automatically make you a Christian.
